A New ASAA Helmet Policy

There has been lengthy discussions about helmet usage over the past years . As a result the ASAA has developed a policy which all Australian ski resorts have adopted.
The Australian Ski Areas Association's helmet policy has been reviewed and updated following recent changes made by the Canada West Ski Areas Association and the National Ski Areas Association (USA). The review also had regard to the Australian alpine and snowsports environments as well as the increasing use of helmets by Australian skiers and riders.

Snow Australia Update

The research phase of the ASAA Australian Tourism Development Program is completed. The findings have formed the basis of the first national marketing program that was rolled out in 2009. The ASAA acknowledges the the work of Strategy Lab Pty Ltd the principal consultants and AusIndustry the government agency administering the grant funding for the project. This marketing program is now know as Snow Australia. Snow Australia launched a website in mid 2009, the site is a guide to the resort areas available in Australia and helps a new skier/boarder find information and holiday planning.
Snow Australia now enters it's second phase in implementing a 3 year national marketing plan to promote skiing and boarding in Australia to Australians and the World.

About ASAA



The members of the Australian Ski Areas Association are the owners and operators of the Australian ski fields. These businesses have formed an association to develop and publish policies.

The key matters of interest to the association are as follows:

  • visitor safety in the alpine environment;
  • administration of appropriate standards of instruction in snow sports (in conjunction with the Australian Professional Snowsports Instructors Association);
  • occupational health and safety for employees and contractors, particularly in relation to the development of safety standards in the use of aerial and surface ropeway transport (ski lifts);
  • development of standards applicable to the appropriate provision of aerial and surface ropeway transport so as to reduce potential hazards to users of the services provided by members;
  • ensuring that appropriate environmental policies are developed for minimising the impact of provision of snow tourism services;
  • ensuring that economic significance of snow tourism in Australia in terms of jobs, capital investment, and annual return is understood by the government and private sectors;
  • acting as an industry spokesperson for matters relating to alpine tourism and snow sport.
