Thredbo is a year-round resort nestled at the base of Mount Crackenback in the foothills of the New South Wales Snowy Mountains.
Home to Australia’s longest ski run of 5.9km, this is a true European-style mountain resort, just 6km from the peak of Mt Kosciuszko. Thredbo village is a small town with full facilities and offers a wide range of lodges, hotels and self-contained apartments. It lies in the Thredbo River Valley and is a beautiful place to enjoy the snow, with the village on one side of the river and the mountain and ski slopes on the other. There’s something here for everyone with 480 hectares of varied snow terrain from beginners’ runs with plenty of space to challenging runs for more advanced skiers and snowboarders.
Most people come to Thredbo by car, as it’s conveniently located halfway between Sydney and Melbourne, not to mention just a two-and-a-half hour drive from Canberra. Give yourself between five and six-and-a-half hours to drive from the Sydney CBD, while the run from the Victorian capital is only about thirty minutes more via the picturesque Kosciuszko Alpine Way.
Thredbo is just 33km from the major town of Jindabyne, where you’ll find loads of off-snow accommodation as well as entertainment and shopping.
But if you’re after the full experience of the snow, you can’t beat staying at Thredbo village.
